Princeton, N.J. (September 7, 2025) – Mount St. Mary's men's water polo won their third and final match of the Princeton Invitational, besting LIU by a score of 16-6 on Sunday Afternoon. The Mountaineers earned their second win of the year, improving to a record of 2-5 on the young season, going 1-3 in New Jersey during this past weekend's play.
The Mountaineer offensive push started early in the first quarter against the Sharks, taking a 5-0 advantage in the quarter with two goals from
Ioannis Skliras and solo goals from
Jack Fox,
William Matthews, and
Aaron Tarr. LIU rebounded in the second quarter, shutting out the Mountaineers in the period to make it a close 5-3 lead heading into the break.
After a shutout second quarter, the Mount responded in the third quarter, firing a further five goals past LIU off the arms of
Chrysostomos Valavanis, Tarr, and Matthews.
Alexandros Belesis started his scoring in the third as well, putting two past the Sharks defense. Along with a goal from
Ivan Morales in the forth quarter, Belesis would find the net on five more occasions, rounding out the team's second win on the year.
Belesis on the day against the Sharks notched seven goals from ten shots along with five assists and four steals.
William Matthews continued his good run of form with two goals and two assists in game three. And Tarr notched two goals and completed four steals against LIU. In goal,
Sherif Hosni made 15 saves while only allowing six scores for the opposition.
