EMMITSBURG, Md. (September 19, 2025) – Mount St. Mary's women's rugby travels to the West Virginia panhandle for a Saturday match against Wheeling. The Mount will look to improve upon their flying 2-0-1 start to the year against the Cardinals this weekend.
MOUNT UPDATE
Against Penn State last weekend. four different Mountaineers reached the try zone during the match.
Neely Denlinger was the first to cross, followed by
Anita Manglona.
Shaniah Mayers completed a conversion on the Manglona try. Heading into the break, the home side led the Nittany Lions 12-0.
Zy'Quaria Climons scored the third try of the afternoon for Mount, and
Victoria Holmes guaranteed the victory by securing a try with four minutes remaining on the clock. Those scores were enough to withstand two scores by Penn State and earn the victory.
SCOUTING THE CARDINALS
Wheeling has retained a 1-1 record to start the year, losing to Davenport on September 6 by a score of 42-12, but walloping Ohio State 54-0 in their home opener on September 13. Last year, the Cardinals went 12-0 in a perfect fall XV's season, defeating Southern Nazarene 58-17 to claim the NCR National Championship title.
ALL-TIME RECORD
The meeting between the Mountaineers and the Cardinals on Saturday will be their first matchup in both program's collective history.
