EMMITSBURG, Md. (September 19, 2025) – Mount St. Mary's men's rugby resumes their 2025 fall campaign with an away match against Mary Washington in Fredericksburg, Virginia. After their 1-0 start against Davenport, the Mountaineers will look to get back on good footing after their bye week.
MOUNT UPDATE
The match against Davenport started with an early penalty conversion for the Mountaineers, as
Evan Corbett put through a kick, going up 3-0 within three minutes.
Hayden McKay opened the tries for the Mount in the 19
th minute, with a Corbett conversion following soon after.
Xavier Locke and
Fintan Hughes added to the Mount's score through the first before McKay once again found the goal line to take a 29-0 score into the halftime break.
Davenport added 14 points in the second half, but it was too little to late with the Mount's insurance points in the first. Locke and Hughes tallied solo tries against the Panthers while McKay contributed to the game with a brace of scoring. Corbett went 3-4 on conversion kicks after the try, with a penalty conversion following suit.
SCOUTING THE EAGLES
Mary Washington Started their 2025 XV's campaign with a 65-3 loss to nationally ranked Navy on September 13 in Annapolis. In the fall of 2024, the Eagles recorded a 4-5 with notable wins against Kutztown, Southern Virginia, Belmont Abbey, and Mount St. Mary's, defeating the Mountaineers by a score of 40-18 in Fredericksburg. During the return game in Emmitsburg, the Mountaineers secured a 44-35 win over the Eagles.

The mountaineers and the Eagles have met on nine occasions dating back to 2016, with Mary Washington holding a 5-4 record over the Mount. In those meetings, the Eagles hold a 4-0 record over the Mountaineers in Virginia.
