Annapolis, Md. (September 12, 2025) – Mount St. Mary's men's water polo fell to the United States Naval Academy by a score of 20-7 on Friday night. With the loss, the Mountaineers fall to a 0-1 start in the opening match of the Mid-Atlantic Water Polo Conference season.
Through the first half, the Mountaineers found themselves shutdown by an intense Navy defense and an overpowering Midshipmen offense, down 8-0 at halftime. The shutout was finally broken in the third half when
Ioannis Skliras started the Mountaineer scoring with six minutes left in the quarter. Skliras found the net two more times in the period for his hat trick followed by goals from
Chrysostomos Valavanis,
Ayden Hess, and
William Matthews.
Skliras found the net in the fourth quarter to round out the Mount scoring in the game. The Greek national found the net on four occasions followed by solo goals from Valavanis, Hess, and Matthews.
Sherif Hosni made 13 saves while in goal for the Mountaineers.
