EMMITSBURG, Md. (September 11, 2025) – Mount St. Mary's men's water polo hits the road this weekend for their opening Mid-Atlantic Water Polo Conference match with No. 17 Navy on September 12. They also play a tripleheader against Salem, MIT, and Connecticut College on September 13.
MOUNT UPDATE
The Mountaineers returned from this past weekend's Princeton Invitational with a 1-2 record, defeating LIU by a score of 16-6 on September 7. Mount St. Mary's fell to No. 9 Princeton and No. 20 Santa Clara in succession by scores of 18-10 and 23-13 respectively.
Alexandros Belesis notched 14 goals across last weekend's Princeton Invitational, with the Greek scoring seven against LIU on September 7.
William Matthews logged his first Mount hat trick in the game against Santa Clara on September 6. And
Ioannis Skliras logged six goals in last weekend's action, including a hat trick against ranked Princeton on September 5.
Sherif Hosni recorded 34 saves during the action in New Jersey, including 15 saves alone against the Sharks.
SCOUTING THE OPPONENTS
Both Navy and MIT come into action against the Mountaineers being nationally ranked, with the midshipmen being ranked No. 17 in the country and MIT ranked eight in the NCAA D3 polls.
The Midshipmen come into their home invitational with a 4-4 record, winning all three of their games at last weekend's Princeton Invitational against Wagner, LIU, and No. 16 Harvard. Navy bested Wagner in their MAWPC conference opener by a score of 13-12.
Salem travel to Annapolis with a 5-2 record on the young season, besting Penn State Behrend, Washington & Jefferson, John's Hopkins, and the Pitt Masters team last weekend at the Washington & Jefferson Invitational. The Tigers recorded wins against Redlands and Biola at the Air Force Rare Air Challenge to start the 2025 season.
MIT comes into the Navy Open off the back of a 1-3 start to the season, recording a win against Bucknell in a 14-13 triple overtime affair in Cambridge, Massachusetts. The Engineers have played against sizeable division one opponents in No. 8 Fordham, Wagner, and Gannon.
This weekend will play host to Connecticut College's first action of 2025, playing against Penn State Behrend, Wheaton, MIT, and the Mount while in Annapolis.

The Mountaineers hold a 1-7 record against Navy, a 3-6 record against Salem, an 0-2 record against MIT, and a 1-0 record against Connecticut College, with the Mountaineers besting the Camels by a score of 19-10 on October 17, 2021.
