EMMITSBURG, Md. (May 1, 2025) – Mount St. Mary's baseball hosts Quinnipiac for a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference series this weekend. With the team's 25-16 win over Georgetown on Wednesday, April 30, the Mountaineers moved to an overall record of 17-26 while maintaining a conference record of 9-12.
MOUNT UPDATE
After back-to-back home runs by Georgetown to put the Mount in a 2-0 deficit, the runs started to pour in during the bottom of the inning after
Ty Fredo hit a grand slam to take a 4-2 lead. A game-tying two-run shot in the top of the third by the Hoyas was swiftly canceled out as
Mateo Zeppieri singled down the right field line to score
Sam Grube. The next at bat,
Bryce Rudisill promptly dispatched a ball over the fence for a three-run home run, now cementing an 8-4 lead.
Georgetown went on to score seven runs in the top of the fourth, taking an 11-8 lead less than halfway through the game. Over the next three innings, nine Mountaineers crossed the plate. It started with
Alex Mendes scoring from third on an overthrow from the catcher followed up by a Zeppieri home run in the bottom of the fourth. A Mendes single that scored
Evan Smith was followed up by three walks, a hit by pitch, and a wild pitch, driving in six more runs in the bottom of the fifth to make it a 15-11 Mountaineer lead.
Three more runs came across the plate before
Ty Fredo doubled off the left field wall, driving in Rudisill, Zeppieri, and
Nolan Book in the bottom of the eighth. Before the inning was over, Smith, Grube, and Mendes singled, driving in three more runs while rounding out an eventful marathon of base path action.
On the day, Fredo went 4-4 from the plate while scoring four runs of his own while knocking in a mammoth nine RBIs from two home runs. Mendes totaled five hits from six at-bats while knocking in two RBIs. And
Evan Smith went 3-6 with an RBI. In total, all nine Mountaineers in the lineup recorded hits from the plate, amassing 19 knocks on the day.
SCOUTING THE BOBCATS
Quinnipiac comes into the game with a 23-18-1 record with a 14-7 record in the MAAC. The Bobcats have logged conference sweeps against Iona, Niagara and Merrimack as well as non-conference wins against UNC Wilmington, Radford, Rhode Island, and Central Connecticut. Â

The Mountaineers and the Bobcats have played each other on 53 occasions, with Quinnipiac holding a 31-22 edge over the Mount with their last meeting on April 30, 2023 ending in a 10-2 win for the Bobcats.
