VILLANOVA, Pa. (April 6, 2025) – Mount St. Mary's women's water polo were swept by a combine force of LIU and Wagner in their fourth weekend of Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference play away at Villanova. With their two loses, the Mount falls to a 3-6 record in the Conference while staying above .500 with a 14-12 record.
The Mountaineers started off game one of the day against LIU with a six goal first quarter while ending the period with a 6-4 lead. A four goal outing in the first quarter by
Rebecca Valentine was followed up by solo goals by
Beatrice Vieira and
Anita Radaelli to start off with a commanding lead. But a shutout second quarter by the Sharks sent the Mountaineers into the halftime break down 9-6 after LIU scored five goals in the period.
Four goals for the Mount were fired past the LIU goalkeeper, as Valentine recorded her fifth goal of the day followed by scores from
Anna Kegel,
Maria Boix Pascual, and
Leilani Horan. Pascual scored two more goals in the fourth and final quarter, but the damage had been done and the Mountaineers were unable to complete the comeback.

In game two against Wagner, the Mountaineers found themselves in a hole early, being shut down by the Seahawks 3-1 with a goal Valentine marking their only scoring effort of the first quarter. Valentine scored once more in the second followed by a goal from Radaelli, but the Mountaineers once again found themselves down 8-3 heading into the halftime break.
Vieira, Valentine, and
Robyn Currie found the back of the net in the third quarter, but a ever present Wagner offense kept the Mount at bay, winning the third quarter by a score of 4-3. The Mount launched a dominant scoring effort to start the fourth and final quarter, with Vieira opening the period's scoring Two converted penalties from Valentine and Kegel equalized the Seahawk scoring efforts later in the quarter followed by lob-shot goal from Vieira and a double from Valentine to ring up her sixth goal of the match. Even after the overwhelming offense from the Mount came out in the fourth, they were unable to match the three-goal deficit, ending the game in defeat.
