Mount St. Mary’s Takes on LIU in First Round of MAAC Women’s Water Polo Tournament

EMMITSBURG, Md. (April 24, 2025) – Mount St. Mary's women's water polo begins their chase for the program's first ever Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference title on Friday as they are set to face off against LIU in the first round of the tournament. The Mountaineers ended their 2025 campaign with a MAAC record of 4-7 while consolidated by a overall record of 15-13.

MOUNT UPDATE

Mount St. Mary's women's water polo earned their spot in the MAAC Championships on the final day of the season with a 13-12 win over Siena. Later in the day, the team closed out the regular season with a defeat to Marist, 12-8.
 
Becca Engquist was phenomenal in goal, particularly against Siena, finishing the day with 26 saves. On the offensive side, Anita Radaelli posted six goals including a game one hat trick. Anna Kegel contributed a hattie against the Saints as well. Eight goals in the second half were enough to fend off a Siena rally to earn the victory. Beatrice Vieira provided two of the final three tallies late in the fourth which proved decisive.
 
The nightcap was tied 3-3 after the first quarter, but the homestanding Red Foxes earned enough goals in the second and third periods to pull ahead and stay up. The results today give the Mount a regular season record of 15-13 with a 4-7 mark in MAAC play.

SCOUTING THE SHARKS

LIU holds an overall record of 18-11 with a conference record of 9-3 in the MAAC Red Division. The Sharks were victorious over the Mountaineers in the regular season matchup between the two teams, as LIU beat the Mount by a score of 21-12 in Villanova, Pennsylvania. They have faced off against notable non-conference opponents in Princeton, Harvard, Brown, UC San Diego, Cal State Fullerton, and Arizona State.
 
ALL-TIME SERIES
 
The Mountaineers and the Sharks have faced off on four occasions with LIU holding a 4-1 advantage. Their last match up on April 6, 2025 ended in a 21-12 victory for the Sharks.
