EMMITSBURG, Md. (April 24, 2025) – Mount St. Mary's baseball hits the road Friday to take on Canisius in upstate New York in a three game, Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference series. With the team's loss to George Mason on April 22, the Mountaineers own a overall record of 15-24 while retaining a MAAC record of 8-10.

MOUNT UPDATE

The Mountaineers struck first against the Patriots after Logan Yi walked with the bases load to drive in Ty Fredo, taking a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first. Fredo featured in more action at the plate later in the bottom of the second after the sophomore from New Jersey hit out a two-run home run to take a 3-0 lead. After that, the George Mason pitching shutout the Mountaineers offense while accumulating the run support to best the home side.

Fredo led the way at the plate, going 2-5 with two RBIs off of his scoreboard hitting home run. As well as going 1-2 from the plate today, Mateo Zeppieri drew three walks while playing as the days designated hitter. Yi along with Mikey Rodriguez, Evan Meier, Jacob Slusarski, and Joey Agar all also notched hits against the Patriots. Jake Andrews and Tommy Moore logged 2.0 innings of work a piece today while holding George Mason to zero runs in their respective outings, combining for three Patriot strikeouts.

SCOUTING THE GOLDEN GRIFFINS   

Canisius has compiled an overall record of 9-23 with a MAAC conference record of 6-11 with victories against Merrimack, Saint Peter's, Sacred Heart, and Iona. The Golden Griffins were victorious twice over against Marist, outscoring the Red Foxes 18-6 over an April 4 doubleheader.

Trent Rumley is far and beyond the Golden Griffins season MVP while leading the team with a batting average of .353, an OPS of 1.087, 36 RBIs, 8 home runs, and 78 total bases. Among their staff's qualified starters, Peyton Consigli leads the way with an ERA of 5.72 in 45.2 innings of work along with 57 strikeouts and an opponent batting average of .277.

SERIES HISTORY

The Mountaineers and Golden Griffins have faced off on 14 occasions, with this weekend's home side accruing a record of 10-4 against the Mount, with their last matchup on May 22, 2024 in the MAAC championships first round ending in a 4-3 win for the Mountaineers.
