EMMITSBURG, Md. (May 12, 2026) – Mount St. Mary's baseball travels the long road to upstate New York this week for a three-game Metro Atlantic Athletic conference set against Niagara, with first pitch on Wednesday, May 13 slatted for a 3:00 p.m.
MOUNT UPDATE
After a scoreless first inning for both sides, the Mountaineers opened up a seven spot on the UMES on May 5.
Phoenix Williams started the outpour in the bottom of the second, singling to right field to score
Christian Bauman. Later in the inning, with the bases loaded,
Ryan McKay walked to score
David Stokely followed by an
Alex Mendes double to right center that cleared the bases for a 5-0 lead. Mendes was later driven in off a
Cameron Biller double followed by a
Christian Bauman ground out that scored
Ty Fredo that capped off the inning.
UMES scored one in the top of the third followed by a
Carson Clark single in the bottom half of the inning that scored
Phoenix Williams. Things remained quiet for both teams in the fourth inning but that Mount bats came alive once again in the fifth.
Alex Mendes singed to the shortstop to start the inning, driving in
Ryan McKay followed by a
Ty Fredo double to the outfield that scored both Mendes and
Carson Clark. Later,
Christian Bauman doubled to right driving in
Ty Fredo before
David Stokely singled, scoring
Cameron Biller to end the inning.
In the bottom of the sixth inning,
Cameron Biller singled through the right side of the infield, scoring Mendes and
Sam Dinitz. Mendes later ground out in the bottom half of the eighth, scoring
Ryan McKay to cap off the game for the Mountaineers.
Mendes led the way for the Mount against UMES on Tuesday, going 2-6 with a double, three runs scored, and five RBIs. Biller followed suit, going 4-5 with a walk, a run scored, and three RBIs. Fredo and Bauman knocked in two RBIs a piece while Clark, Stokely, Williams, and McKay all recorded solo RBIs against the Hawks. Accredited with his first win of the year,
Riley Williams struck out five batters on the mound during his 5.0 inning start.
MENDES MOVES CLOSER TO HISTORY
With his two stolen bases against UMES on May 5, senior infielder
Alex Mendes notched his 36
th stolen base of the year. Mendes needs one more stolen base to tie Myles Nicholson's 2019 record of 37 stolen bases and two to overtake Nicholson for the new single season record.
SCOUTING THE PURPLE EAGLES
Niagara baseball has notched a 24-17-1 record in 2026 while recording a 19-8 record in the MAAC, notching the second spot in the postseason behind Rider. Notable wins for the Purple Eagles this season have come against Portland, NJIT, and St. Bonaventure while notching conference wins against Merrimack, Siena, Iona, Quinnipiac, Canisius, Marist, Saint Peter's, Rider, and Manhattan.

Dating to their first meeting in 2023, the Mountaineers have a 2-8 record against the Purple Eagles while having a 0-6 record in Lewisburg. Their last meeting on March 23, 2025 ended in a 8-5 win for Mount St. Mary's in Emmitsburg.
