Mount Baseball Ends Season on Positive Note, Defeat Niagara 12-5; Mendes Steals Stolen Base Record

EMMITSBURG, Md. (May 15, 2026) – Mount St. Mary's baseball finished the 2026 season on a positive note, defeating the Niagara Purple Eagles, 12-5, taking the series two games to one.

The Mount's record for the season is 22-26, going 13-17 in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC).

The offense collected 14 hits, led by three from Sam Meyer. Christian Bauman, Cameron Biller, Phoenix Williams, and David Stokely all earned multi-hit games. On the mound, the bullpen trio of Kaden Kimble, Mike Arndt, and JB Manarchuck went seven innings with 12 strikeouts. Kimble was credited with the victory. Together with starter Jackson Snyder's three punchouts, the Mountaineers' staff retired 15 Purple Eagles via the strikeout.

Alex Mendes set the program's single season record for stolen bases, swiping his 38th bag in the fourth inning. Alexander the Great stole second base in the top of the fourth inning, surpassing Myles Nicholson's 2019 record of 37 steals in a single season.

HOW THE GAME UNFOLDED
  • A nine-run second inning for the Mount was the decisive factor in the win. Trailing 1-0 entering the frame, Stokely leveled the score with an RBI single to score Biller. Ryan McKay drew a bases loaded walk for the lead, and Meyer singled in another to make it 3-1.
  • Ty Fredo delivered the biggest blow of the inning with a bases-clearing triple. Home runs by Bauman and Mendes put the exclamation point on the frame.
  • Meyer added another home run in the third for the team's double digit run total.
  • Williams doubled in Biller and Mendes to complete the scoring for the team and the game.
