Mountaineers Host Maryland in Return Game on Tuesday Afternoon

EMMITSBURG, Md. (April 14, 2025) – Mount St. Mary's baseball returns home from their two-week road trip to face off against the University of Maryland in Emmitsburg. With their loss to Michigan on Sunday, April 15, the Mountaineers will look to get back into the win column after their overall record fell to 14-20 in Ann Arbor this past weekend.

MOUNT UPDATE

Game two against Michigan started with back-to-back solo-run innings for the Wolverines, getting on the board in the first and second innings to jump out to an early 2-0 lead. Ty Fredo doubled down the left field line in the top of the third, scoring Kyle Cincinnati from second to cut the deficit to one run. The Wolverines tagged on one more run in the bottom of the sixth, rounding out a 3-1 defeat for the Mountaineers. The Mount bested Michigan in overall hits during game two, besting the Wolverines four hits with six hits of their own.

Cincinnati led the way from the plate and on the base paths for the Mountaineers during game two, scoring the game's only run while going 2-3 from the plate. Fredo, Nick Fleming, Evan Meier, and Evan Smith all notched hits in the game against Michigan, with Fredo knocking in an RBI. Serigne Sarre was accredited with his fourth loss of the year, moving to a 3-4 record with four strikeouts against Michigan. Eli DeRossi made an appearance out of the bullpen during the game, working 2.0 innings of one-hit baseball with a strikeout.

Fredo still leads the way among team batting average, recording a average of .336 in 137 at-bats along with 24 RBIs and 64 total bases. Starting in 33 games for the Mountaineers this season, Grube has recorded a batting average of .328 through 128 at-bats with 26 RBIs and 59 total bases.

Sarre and DeRossi still lead the pitching staff among qualified starters, with the two posting ERAs of 3.11 and 4.43 respectively along with Sarre striking out 8 batters and DeRossi dismissing 40 batters. Kaden Kimble leads the way from the bullpen, posting an ERA of 3.60 through 15.0 innings, striking out 14 batters in the process.  

SCOUTING THE TERRAPINS   

Since their 9-3 victory over the Mountaineers on March 12, the Terrapins have posted a record of 7-13 with a conference record of 3-9 during that period, recording a five-game losing streak against UMBC, Illinois, and Georgetown from April 1 to April 8.
Chris Hacopian leads the Terrapins with a batting average of .345 along with a OPS of 1.043, five home runs, 36 RBIs 62 Total bases, and 29 walks. Holli Porter and Alex Calarco are tied for the home run lead, both hitting out 13 long balls.
Kyle McCoy leads the Maryland starting rotation with a staff leading 3.06 ERA and 51 strikeouts in 53.0 IP, recording a record of 3-2.

SERIES HISTORY

The Mountaineers are 3-13 against the terrapins, with their last meeting this past march ending in a 9-3 win for Maryland in College Park. Their last meeting in Emmitsburg on March 12, 2024 ended in a late comeback win for the Terrapins, besting the Mount 6-4 through nine innings of play.
