Women’s Water Polo Round’s Out New York Trip With Conference Split

LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. (March 22, 2025) – Mount St. Mary's women's water polo split their Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference double header against Siena and Iona today and New York, with the Gaels defeating the Mount 16-12, and the Mount coming out victorious against Siena by a score of 15-11. With their split, the Mountaineers are now 14-8 with a conference record of 3-2.
 
In game one against Siena, the Mount held a narrow 4-3 lead heading into the intermission with a goal from Valentine and a first quarter hattrick from Kegel. The second half became much of the same, with another 4-3 quarter win extending the Mount's led to 8-6 with assistance from Valentine and Beatrice Vieira, who both scored two goals each before the break. Maria Boix Pascual added two goals in the third followed by goals from Kegel and Anita Radaelli to hold off the Saints in the third by a score of 12-8. Pascual added a goal in the final quarter followed by a brace from Vieira to round off the game for a Mountaineers victory in game one of the day.

In game two, the Mount kept pace with the Gaels after goals from Valentine and Robyn Currie, but found themselves down 4-3 heading into the first intermission. Kegel scored the only Mount goal of the second quarter while losing the second by a score of 4-1 heading into the halftime break. Vieira put two past Gael's shot stopper in the third followed by a solo goal from Currie to keep things close headed into the final quarter. When the fourth quarter, both teams came out firing to draw the final period 5-5. Goals from Valentine, Vieira, and Currie came along, but with the score in the second being the deciding factor in the game thus far, the Mount fell to Iona in the final game of the day.
