Women’s Lacrosse Begins MAAC Play at Canisius

EMMITSBURG, Md. (March 21, 2025) – Mount St. Mary's women's lacrosse begins Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) play with a trip to battle Canisius Saturday.  
 
MOUNT UPDATE
  • To close out non-conference action, the Mount fell to the Cincinnati Bearcats 13-10 at home Monday. Anna Salerno secured a hat trick, Mackenzi Furlong had a three-point day, and MK Allingham scored twice.
  • Camille Thomas recorded a season high 13 saves, marking her third double-digit save effort of the season. The sophomore saved 50 percent of a highly efficient Bearcats team.
  • Salerno continues to lead in goals and points with a respective 18 and 20, and Brooke Molchanoff has seven assists.
  • The Mount is 1-1 in MAAC openers as a member of the league. In 2023, the team prevailed 15-14 in overtime over Niagara and dropped a 12-7 decision to Iona in 2024.
  • Last season, the Mountaineers went 5-4 in MAAC play to finish in fifth place.
SCOUTING THE GOLDEN GRIFFINS
  • Canisius is 3-5 on the season and is playing their first game since March 12, when they lost a 14-13 game to Central Michigan.
  • In 2024, the Golden Griffins also qualified for the MAAC Championship, earning a 4-5 mark and coming in sixth place.
  • Maddie Fitzgerald is the biggest offensive producer for Canisius, leading in goals (17) and assists (5) for 22 points. Olivia Licardi has started every game in goal since mid-February, collected 56 saves for the season.
ALL-TIME SERIES
 
Mount St. Mary's and Canisius have split the two previous games between them, both of which were also played in Buffalo. The Golden Griffins won the first meeting, 11-10, while the Mountaineers took the second game 8-5.
 
UPCOMING SCHEDULE

Next weekend, the Mount returns home to face Siena on Saturday, March 29.
