Mount Baseball and Niagara Face Off in Emmitsburg for MAAC Series Starting on Friday

EMMITSBURG, Md. (March 20, 2025) – Mount St. Mary's baseball comes home to Emmitsburg after a four game road trip to New York and Washington D.C. to face of against Niagara in a three-game Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference series. After their midweek game against George Washington, the Mount is now 8-11 overall with a 2-4 record in the MAAC.

MOUNT UPDATE

Against the Revolutionaries, the Mountaineers found themselves down in the first three innings by a score of 1-0 even though starter, Owen Crowe, went 5.0 innings and striking out four Revolutionaries in his innings of work. Bryce Rudisill once again proved his power at the plate in the top of the fourth after a ball sent out to right field hit off the score board to drive in Ethan Flaugher and Sam Grube for a three-run home run. A three-run home run for the home side in the bottom of the sixth regained the lead for GW however, even in the face of good pitching.

 Two more runs for the Revolutionaries came in the bottom of the eight to up their score to 6-3. In the top of the ninth, Jake Maske ground out to the short stop while Nolan Book scored in the process. Ty Fredo singled through the left side of the infield later on in the inning, scoring Mikey Rodriguez. But George Washington worked the Mount batters into a double play, ending the scoring drive and the game in the ninth.

Fredo had a nearly perfect day at the plate, going 4-5 and knocking in a RBI to up his season batting average to .378. Book went 2-3 from the plate with a double and a hit by pitch while scoring a RBI in the process. And Grube went 1-4 on the day with a early innings double to set the tone for the rest of the offense.

SCOUTING THE PURPLE EAGLES

Niagara has an overall record of 3-13 with a MAAC Record of 0-3, getting swept by Marist in their opening series on the weekend of March 14. The Purple Eagles have faced off against tough competition in Miami, Purdue, and Valparaiso, while beating Beacons 11-1 in their first game of the series.

Nate Milk has recorded a .328 with a OPS of .922 along with 32 total bases and eight RBIs. Jacob Brooks has also recorded a OPS of .762 with a batting average of .298, seven RBIs and 19 total bases. Matthew DelVeecchio leads the Purple Eagle's pitching staff among qualified starters with a 6.35 ERA and 7 strikeouts.

The Mountaineers are 0-7 against the Purple Eagles, with the losing streak dating back to their first match up on May 18, 2023.
