MOUNT STORY LINES
- Dola Adebayo and Jedy Cordilia each matched their career high with 22 points to lead Mount St. Mary's past American, 83-72, in their First Four matchup in Dayton, Ohio, on Wednesday. Dallas Hobbs added 17 in the victory as the Mount shot 57.7 percent in the game and led by as many as 19 points.
- Mount St. Mary's is 23-12 on the season, the most wins by a Mountaineer team since joining NCAA Division I in 1988-89. The only other 20-win seasons in the D1 era came in 1995-96 (21-8) and 2016-17 (20-16).
- This will be the first-ever meeting between the Mount and Duke. The Mountaineers are 2-26 all-time against ACC opponents, including a 78-74 overtime victory over Miami (Fla.) on December 21. The Mount's other ACC win was a victory over No. 21 Georgia Tech at the Omni in Atlanta, Ga., on Dec. 18, 1995. Georgia Tech went on to win the ACC regular season title that year.
- Mount St. Mary's is 12-3 over the past 15 games, shooting 47.2 percent from the field over that stretch. The Mountaineers are holding the opposition to 38.1 percent shooting over the 15-game stretch with a +8.8 rebound edge.
- This is the Mount's seventh appearance in the NCAA Tournament, joining the 1995, 1999, 2008, 2014, 2017 and 2021 squads. The Mount was a member of the Northeast Conference for the first six appearances.
- The Mountaineers are 0-4 all-time in the NCAA First Round, having lost to Kentucky (113-67) in 1995, Michigan State (76-63) in 1999, North Carolina (113-74) in 2008 and Villanova (76-56) in 2017. The Mount has faced a No. 1 seed in all four First Round appearances.
- The Mount will be playing an NCAA First Round game in Raleigh for the second time. Mount St. Mary's lost to top-seeded North Carolina, 113-74, in the First Round exactly 17 years ago on March 21, 2008. That year, the Mount defeated Coppin State (69-60) in the Opening Round in Dayton, Ohio to advance.
- Mount St. Mary's is 1-34 all-time against ranked opponents. This will be the fourth time the Mount has played the No. 1 team in the nation. The last time the Mount played the No. 1 team was a 76-56 loss to No. 1 Villanova in the NCAA First Round in 2017 in Buffalo, N.Y. The Mount's lone win against a ranked team was a 71-69 victory over No. 21 Georgia Tech on Dec. 18, 1995.
- A Mount win would send the Mount to the Round of 32 against either Baylor or Mississippi State.
