LEXINGTON, Va. (March 14, 2025) – Mount St. Mary's women's water polo defeated the Virginia Military institute in the opening game of their 2025 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference campaign by a score of 14-10. With their against the Keydets, the Mount moves to a 1-0 record in the MAAC with a overall record of 12-6
A dominant first quarter was capped off by goals from
Beatrice Vieira,
Anita Radaelli and two goals from
Rebecca Valentine to send the Mount into the first intermission up 4-2. A 5-3 second quarter win for the Keydets was rounded off by three goals from Vieira,
Anna Kegel, and
Taylor Wilson to send the Mount into the halftime break with a narrow 7-6 lead over VMI. The Mount fired four more goals past VMI in third off the throws from Vieira,
Leilani Horan, and Valentine, with the senior from Blue Bell, Pennsylvania putting two past the Keydet defense. But three goals from Valentine,
Maria Boix Pascual and Emily hatcher put the game away in the fourth as the Mount secured a four-goal victory against VMI on MAAC opening day.
Valentine led the scoring for the Mount in the game, firing five past the opposing goalkeeper while notching a steal and three drawn exclusions. Vieira recorded a hat trick with two steals. And Pascual recorded a goal herself along with providing her teammates four assists.
Olivia Fernie recorded 13 total saves for the Mount while in goal against VMI.
