EMMITSBURG, Md. (December 20, 2025) – After achieving their first 1-0 beginning as a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) program, Mount St. Mary's women's basketball looks for two straight in the league – and four straight overall – when they host Iona on Sunday.
MOUNT UPDATE
- Building a lead as high as 23, Mount St. Mary's withstood a late swing by Marist and won 66-59 Friday evening at Knott Arena. Gabrielle Kennerly led with 23 points, and Jaedyn Jamison had the most rebounds with nine.
- The win marks the Mount's third win in a row over Marist, and the first triumph over the Red Foxes on the Knott Arena floor since 1997.
- Teodora Ivanovic supplied a career-high 10 points, joining Kennerly in double figures.
- Lenora Nkangwen made her collegiate debut after battling numerous leg injuries. She scored two points and added a rebound in five minutes of play.
- Kennerly now stands fifth in the MAAC in points per game, averaging 14.6 for the season.
- Mount joins Fairfield, Quinnipiac, Siena, Saint Peter's, and Sacred Heart with 1-0 starts in the MAAC.
SCOUTING THE GAELS
- In a hard-fought battle that required extra time to settle, Iona fell to Sacred Heart 64-58 in New Rochelle. Isabellah Middleton had the most points for the Gaels with 20.
- Iona comes into the game looking to reverse a two-game slide, with a defeat to Darmouth compounding the Sacred Heart loss.
- Zoey Ward makes the biggest impact for the points and rebounds categories for the season, earning a respective 12.9 points and eight boards.
- Ella Fajardo retained her position at the point, dishing out 2.6 assists per game.
THE ALL-TIME SERIES
- The Gaels hold the upper hand in a series that is exclusively contained in MAAC action.
- Iona swept the first season on the way to a conference title, but the Mount gave them their toughest task in the postseason tournament – a 39-37 Gaels decision.
- The one victory for the Mountaineers came in February 2024. Jo Raflo, Isabella Hunt, and Jessica Tomasetti posted double figures in a 55-48 win.
LOOKING AHEAD
Following a brief Christmas break, Mount St. Mary's hits the road to take on Merrimack (Dec. 29) and Siena (Jan. 1).
