EMMITSBURG, Md. (November 20, 2025) – Mount St. Mary's men's water polo begins their run at the 2025 Mid-Atlantic Water Polo Conference championships on Friday with a first round match-up against George Washington. After a 3-9 finish to the 2025 MAWPC regular season, the Mountaineers c ome into the conference playoffs with the sixth seed, facing off against the three seed Revolutionaries.
Earlier today, two members of the men's water polo team were named to the MAWPC All-Conference Honors List, with
Aaron Tarr being named to the Conference 2
nd Team and
Alexandros Belesis being named to the Conference Honor Roll.
MOUNT UPDATE
During the final weekend of conference play in Staten Island against Wagner, the Mountaineers found themselves in a close 6-5 hole heading into halftime, with Wagner having a one-goal advantage. The Seahawks won the second quarter 4-1 before rounding out the second quarter with a 7-2 period win. A 6-3 fourth quarter win for Wagner in the final period rounded out the defeat for the Mountaineers, ending game one in Staten Island with the team quickly headed towards the Bronx.
Aaron Tarr led game one for the Mount, scoring a hat trick against the Seahawks with two steals and three drawn exclusions.
Gunner Lanquist backed him up with two goals of his own with two drawn exclusions. And
Ivan Morales recorded two assists with two steals against Wagner.
Sherif Hosni recorded eight saves in goal for the Mountaineers Along with an assist and two steals.
In game two of the day against Fordham, the Mountaineers battled out to a close 6-5 first quarter loss with the Rams followed up by a 4-1 second quarter loss. The second half yielded a 10-3 Fordham win, ending the final regular season game for the Mountaineers in 2025.
Alexandros Belesis recorded a three-piece of goals while providing two assists to teammates. Tarr recorded a goal against the Rams while providing a hat trick of assists to teammates and two drawn exclusions. And
Chrysostomos Valavanis recorded two goals from two shots in the hole set while recording a mamouth nine drawn exclusions against Fordham.
Sherif Hosni recorded 16 saves in goal while providing an assist and completing three steals.
SCOUTING GEORGE WASHINGTON
Arriving in the Bronx with the conference playoff three seed, George Washington finished their 2025 regular season with a MAWPC record 7-5, accumulating a overall record of 14-15. GW recorded notable wins against No. 15 UC Santa Barbara, DIII No. 3 Johns Hopkins, and Bucknell (RV). The Mount and George Washington last met on October 25, playing out 17-15 win in favor of the Revolutionaries, with the Mountaineers taking the game to overtime in Emmitsburg.

The Mountaineers are 0-11 against George Washington in the regular season, with the closest score coming in the form of a 15-14 win for the Revolutionaries on October 13, 2024. Their last meeting in the MAWPC playoffs came on November 19, 2023, with the two teams playing out to a 16-12 result in favor of George Washington.
