CLAREMONT, Calif. (October 3, 2025) – Mount St. Mary's men's water polo fell to both Cal State Fullerton and Claremont-Mudd-Scripps on Friday by scores of 21-11 and 19-7 respectively. With the losses, the Mountaineers fall to a record of 6-14 on the eve of the final day of the Gary Troyer Tournament in California.
Against the Titans, the Mountaineers played out to a close 4-3 first quarter loss, with
Alexandros Belesis notching the first goal with a throw from around six meters out.
Aaron Tarr scored the second goal of the quarter on a long breakaway in front of goal followed by a Belesis penalty score to round out the period.
Ioannis Skliras scored to start the second quarter, slinging a ball into the net off a hole-set mismatch.
Chrysostomos Valavanis scored from the hole before Belesis sent another ball into the net before halftime, down four to Fullerton.
Tarr scored a breakaway goal once again in the third quarter followed by a two-goal, hattrick completing showing from Skliras, rounding out a three-goal third quarter.
Carson Owens got on the scoresheet in the fourth quarter, notching his first collegiate goal against the Titans. Belesis scored his fourth of the game in the final quarter, rounding out the game for the Mount.
Belesis logged four goals against Fullerton off of six shots with two completed steals and a drawn penalty. Skliras scored a hat trick off of four shots with an assist and three drawn exclusions. And Tarr scored two goals while providing three assists, completing one steal, and drawing one exclusion.
Sherif Hosni notched eight saves in goal against the Titans.

Belesis started the scoring for the Mount against Claremont-Mudd-Scripps in the first, scoring from open play for the only Mountaineer goal of the first quarter. Tarr scored on a inside chance to start the second followed by another goal from the South African in a hole-set mismatch.
William Matthews scored a skip-shot goal to start the third quarter followed by an Owens penalty score.
Nikolaos Agritelis scored in the fourth from beyond the five-meter line with Matthews scoring a goal, rounding out the game against the Stags.
Tarr led the way for the Mount against CMS, two goals with an assist and three completed steals. Matthews scored two goals while completing one assist and four completed field blocks. And Owens scored a penalty while recording an assist. Hosni recorded six saves in goal against the Stags.
