Mountaineers and Black Knights to Do Battle in Final Home Men’s Rugby Game

EMMITSBURG, Md. (October 23, 2025) – Mount St. Mary's men's rugby plays their final 2025 Fall XV's home game on Saturday, October 25, with a 12:00 p.m. game against Army. With their win against Penn State on October 11, the Mountaineers moved to a 3-1 record while being ranked No. 5 in the national polls, their highest ranking ever.
 
MOUNT UPDATE
 
Against Penn State, the Mountaineers started the scoring in the eighth minute after Hayden McKay scored the opening try with an ensuing Bastian Brunello conversion kick flying through the uprights for an early 7-0 lead. McKay scored once more in the 15th minute followed by a Xavier Lock try in the 35th minute, aiding the Mountaineers as the home side went up 19-7 at halftime.
 
Brunello started the scoring for the Mount fifteen minutes into the second half, as the Frenchman slid a penalty conversion through the uprights. Four minutes later in the 59th minute, McKay completed his hat trick with a Brunello conversion following the score. And Lock got on the board one more time before the final whistle, scoring in the 62nd minute. Penn State put up a good effort in the final 20 minutes, scoring two tries, but the Mountaineer defense held on to secure the win in the end.
 
McKay scored three tries while Lock notched a brace of tries against the Nittany Lions. Brunello went 3-4 from conversions after the score while knocking in a penalty conversion.
 
The Mountaineers scored five tries against Penn State while launching three conversion kicks and knocking in a penalty conversion. Mount St. Mary's also won six out of the seven contested scrums as well as winning 17 contested lineouts. The Mount also yielded 55% of the game possession as well as entering the 22-meter zone on nine occasions.
 
SCOUTING THE BLACK KNIGHTS
 
The United States Military Academy, West Point arrives in Emmitsburg raked nationally right behind the Mount with the No. 6 designation. Through five games in 2025, the Black Knights have accumulated a record of 4-1 with wins against Guelph, Walsh, Southern Virginia, and Mary Washington while falling to Life on September 20 by a score of 35-7.
 
ALL-TIME RECORD
Since 2022, the Black Knights have recorded a record of 2-0 against the Mountaineers, with their last meeting April 5, 2025 ending in a 25-13 win for West Point.
