EMMITSBURG, Md. (October 25, 2025) – No. 5 Mount St. Mary's men's rugby fell to No. 6 Army on Saturday by a score of 24-15. With the loss, the Mountaineers wrap up their home 2025 Fall XV's season with a 3-2 record during the regular season, with one game left to play.
The Black Knights started the scoring to start the game, scoring two tries and knocking in the ensuing conversion kicks within the first 10 minutes. Mount St. Mary's broke the shutout in the 13
th minute, as
Simon Rossi blocked a box kick from Army within the 10-meter line, touching the ball down in the goal as it ran backwards towards the endline. Another Army try and penalty conversion came with eight minutes on the clock in the first, with Army heading into halftime with a 24-5 lead over the Mountaineers.
When play resumed for the second half, the Black Knights and the Mountaineers traded goal line battles and tackles until
Logan Wild converted on a Penalty kick to cut the scoreline to 24-8 with 19 minutes left on the clock. With 12 minutes left on the clock, the Mountaineers advanced deep within the Army 22-meter line, with a dig and dive goal line play from
Chase Brown resulting in the second Mountaineer try on the day. A
Logan Wild conversion sailed through the uprights, but with less than ten minutes to play, the Mountaineers could not get another scoring drive going, falling to Army after 80 minutes.
Rossi and Brown recorded the only Mountaineer tries in the game, with Wild recording a penalty conversion and a conversion after the try. The Mount was outpaced by Army in the lineout department, recording six lineouts wins to the Black Knight's 10. However, the Mount bested West Point in scrums, winning 11 scrums to Army's four. Altogether, the Mountaineers recorded 55 tackles, with
Hayden McKay leading the way for the defense, completing eight tackles against Army.
