Men’s Rugby Faces Life in Opening Round of the D1A College Rugby Championship

EMMITSBURG, Md. (April 10, 2026) – For the second consecutive season, Mount St. Mary's men's rugby competes in the USA Rugby D1A National Championship. Entering as the #6 seed in the East bracket, the Mountaineers challenge #3 Life in the opening Round of 16.
 
MOUNT UPDATE
  • The Mount enters the tournament with an overall record of 7-5 in A-side play.
  • Playoffs come at the conclusion of a successful spring, where the team went 3-1 in its matches. Mount dominated the Echo Field turf as well, with all three victories coming at home.
  • Wins include a 48-17 drubbing of Southern Virginia, prevailing 34-25 over Mary Washington, and a 48-12 rout of St. Thomas.
ABOUT LIFE
  • The Running Eagles earned their #3 seed after an 11-2 season. Like the Mount, they are also entering the tournament on a three-game win streak.
  • Life beat St. Thomas 49-7 on March 7, Davenport 45-19 on March 14, and Arkansas State 31-14 on March 21.

MOUNT IN THE D1A PLAYOFFS
  • On April 5 of last year, Mount St. Mary's challenged Army in West Point. The Black Knights earned a 25-13 win, scoring two tries in the second half to secure the match.
THE BRACKET
  • Quarterfinals take place April 18. Should the Mount win, their opponent would be the winner of #2 Lindenwood and #7 Penn State. Semifinals are April 25 with the championship match May 2 in Indianapolis.
