EMMITSBURG, Md. (October 1, 2025) – Mount St. Mary's men's water polo begins their 2025 tour of California on Thursday, October 2, with a neutral site match against Concordia at 4:00 p.m. The match against the Golden Eagles serves as a warmup for the ensuing four games at the Gary Troyer Tournament against Cal State Fullerton and Claremont-Mudd-Scripps on October 3 as well as Cal Lutheran and Cal Baptist on October 4.
MOUNT UPDATE
Against Navy, the Mount took a 5-2 deficit in the first quarter, with goals from
Aaron Tarr and
Ioannis Skliras. Navy won the second quarter 7-3 followed by a 4-4 tie in the fourth thanks to goals from
Jack Fox and
William Matthews while
Alexandros Belesis scored two. Navy scored five goals in the fourth to the Mount's two goals, rounding out a 22-12 loss.
Nikolaos Agritelis, Belesis, Tarr, and Matthews all contributed to the game with a pair of goals while Maxwell Economy,
Ayden Hess, Fox and Skliras scored one a piece.
Sherif Hosni recorded nine saves against the Mids while providing an assist from goal.
In D.C. against George Washington, the Mountaineers played out to a close 4-3 quarter loss. The Revolutionaries recorded a 5-1 quarter win in the second followed by 5-4 third quarter win. The Revolutionaries and the Mountaineers played out to a 5-5 fourth quarter tie, rounding out a 19-13 defeat.
Belesis got back to his scoring ways against GW, putting five past the defense.
Chrysostomos Valavanis contributed with four goals against the Revolutionaries, reaching the 200 career-goal mark.
Aidan Zieger, Agritelis, Hess, and Tarr all contributed with a goal in the Nation's Capital. Hosni made six saves, completed one steal, and drew one exclusion in the second game.
The first quarter against D3 No. 3 Johns Hopkins in Baltimore ended 6-4 in favor of the Blue Jays. Johns Hopkins drew quarter wins in the second and third, outscoring the Mount 5-3 and 7-3 respectively. The Mountaineer offense attempted to mount a comeback in the fourth, scoring nine while only conceding three goals, but the early deficit stunted their efforts, losing 21-19.
Belesis added six goals to the score sheet while fellow Greeks Valavanis and Skliras added four and three goals respectively. Agritelis added a pair of goals while
Wes Reising, Fox, Hess, and Matthews added solo contributions. Hosni made 12 saves in goal against the Blue Jays.
SCOUTING THE EAGLES
Concordia have recorded a record of 8-9 so far in the 2025 season while not having played a game in the Wester Water Polo Association so far. Notable wins for the Golden Eagles this season include Cal State Fullerton, Iona, Occidental, and Chapman.
