EMMITSBURG, Md. (October 16, 2025) – Mount St. Mary's bowling begins its eighth season of competition with their first trip to the Chelsea Gillam Penguin Classic, hosted by Youngstown State University.
FORMAT: The three-day event follows a traditional format, with Friday serving as Quint Baker day, Saturday as traditional day, and Sunday as best-of-seven Baker bracket play.
PARTICIPATING TEAMS: Mount St. Mary's, Youngstown State (hosts), Alabama A&M, Arkansas State, Coppin State, Duquesne, Jacksonville State, Lewis, Mercyhurst, Nebraska, Niagara, Sacred Heart, Saint Anselm, Valparaiso, Vanderbilt, Walsh, Western Illinois, Wright State
ABOUT THE MOUNT: The Mountaineers finished the 2024-25 season with a 66-43 record and made their third appearance at the USBC Intercollegiate Team Championships. They won three contests at the national event, improving to 7-6 all-time in USBC ITC play.
Piper Chalmers and
Leah Varela qualified for the Intercollegiate Singles Championships. During the summer break,
Trishelle Leal Uribe competed for home country of Mexico at Olimpiada Nacional, winning four medals.
Entering the year, the Mount received the No. 14 ranking in the National Tenpin Coaches Association (NTCA) poll. Coach
Olivia Farwell returns all but one bowler from a season ago, as
Gianna McGahan departed after three seasons by graduating early. Along with Chalmers, Varela, and Leal Uribe are returners

Mikalah Carter, and
Alyssa Balest.
The one newcomer is
Bethany Jaquith, a true freshman from Lancaster, Pennsylvania. The anchor at Manheim Township High School in her junior and senior years, she comes to Emmitsburg a decorated athlete with six Pennsylvania Junior Bowlers Tour major titles and five PA Junior Singles, along with multiple team and Lancaster USBC titles.
SCOUTING THE FIELD: 11 teams in the field are ranked in the NTCA top 25 poll, including five of the top six programs. Top-seeded Jacksonville State will attend, along with Nebraska, Vanderbilt, and Arkansas State. Host Youngstown State received the No. 4 ranking in the poll.
UPCOMING SCHEDULE: The Mountaineers head to Orlando, Florida for Destination Orlando October 24-26 for the second straight year. The event is hosted by Sacred Heart University.
