EMMITSBURG, Md. (October 14, 2025) – Making their penultimate road trip of the 2025 season, Mount St. Mary's women's soccer is set to battle Canisius Wednesday in Buffalo.

MOUNT UPDATE

Optimism to end the goalless drought faded in a 1-0 defeat to the Iona Gaels last Saturday. Abigail Makela finished the contest with eight saves. Only a 39th minute goal from Dolene Smith with a Zaheira Hegazi assist broke the ice to produce the scoring margin. Mount recorded 13 shots during the match with five of those landing on goal.

SCOUTING THE GRIFFS

Canisius enjoyed a four-match win streak from September 6-27, defeating Manhattan, Merrimack, Rider and Iona. Since then, the Griffins have one point – a 0-0 draw with Siena. With 13 goals across eight scorers, with Jessica Whitaker securing four goals and helping with two assists. Chloe Tseros has 56 saves – an average a notch over 4.5 per game.

THE ALL-TIME SERIES

Over five matches, the Mountaineers have a victory against Canisius in 1996. In the remaining four games, the Griffins have two victories and there are two draws. Last season, the teams battled to a 1-1 tie in Emmitsburg.

LOOKING AHEAD

On Saturday (Oct. 18), Mount St. Mary's hosts Siena. Game time is at noon with Senior Day festivities beforehand.
