EMMITSBURG, Md. (August 19, 2024) – Mount St. Mary's senior
Sydoney Clarke and freshman
Adelaide Paredes were named Jersey Mike's MAAC Players of the Week, announced by the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Monday. Clarke earned selection as Offensive Player of the Week and Paredes as Defensive Player of the Week.
Clarke scored goals in both of the Mount's wins over the opening week of the season. The Spanish Town, Jamaica native posted a second half goal, aiding to a 4-0 victory in her Mount debut August 15 against Hampton. At Delaware State on Sunday, Clarke polished off the second of the team's two goals on the way to a 2-0 triumph.
Paredes excelled in the net for her first two games as a collegiate player, producing two clean sheets. With contributions from a strong defensive unit, the goalkeeper fended off 12 shots, of which only 25 percent were on net for a total of three saves.
These efforts, alongside those of their teammates, propelled Mount St. Mary's to the first 2-0 start in program history.
Next Sunday (Aug. 25), the team returns to Waldron Family Stadium for a match against NJIT. Kickoff is noon from Emmitsburg.
