EMMITSBURG, Md. (August 19, 2024) – Mount St. Mary's men's basketball coach Sidy Sall is spending this week in Rwanda, serving as an assistant coach for the Senegal Women's Basketball National Team. The team is competing in the FIBA Pre-Qualifying Tournament ahead of the Women's Basketball World Cup 2026.

Slotted in Group C, the Senegalese won their first game Monday against Hungary, fending off a second half comeback to take the contest 63-61. The team will then play Brazil Tuesday (Aug. 20) at 2 p.m. ET and The Philippines Thursday (Aug. 22) at 5 a.m. ET. All games take place in Kigali Arena in the Rwanda's capital city and are available to watch on the FIBA YouTube channel.

The top two teams from Groups C and D – the groups meeting in Rwanda – will then battle each other in a knockout stage.

Senegal is ranked 25th in the world, while Brazil is ranked eighth, Hungary 16th, and Philippines 40th.

Germany is the host for the 2026 FIBA Women's Basketball World Cup, taking place in September of that year.

Sall is in his first season as an assistant coach for the Mountaineers under head coach Donny Lind.
