NEC FRONT ROW | LIVE STATS

EMMITSBURG, Md. (August 16, 2024) – Fresh off an electrifying and decisive 4-0 win over Hampton to open 2024, Mount St. Mary's women's soccer heads to the First State and face the Delaware State Hornets on Sunday.

MOUNT UPDATE

Luisangely Navas scored the fastest goal to kick off a season in Mount program history, scoring 63 seconds in to spark the offense. Anika Sproxton, Sydoney Clarke, and Joelle Hamel registered goals as the game progressed, en route to the team's most lopsided victory since defeating Delaware State in the Spring 2021 opener. As a coincidence, that contest had the previous record for quickest goal, when Isabella Wendler scored 74 seconds into the match.

A victory against the Hornets would mark the Mount's first 2-0 start as a program. Current high watermarks for a strong beginning are the 2005 season at 2-0-1 (win-draw-win) and a 3-1 start in 2017 (win-loss-win-win).

SCOUTING THE HORNETS

Sunday serves as the season debut for Delaware State, who look to bounce back from an 0-15-1 campaign in 2023. The Hornets are under the direction of Natasha Ademakinwa, who comes to Delaware following a stint as the head men's and women's soccer coach for Shawnee State University. Her main objective will be to generate offense as the 2023 team managed two goals across the season.

THE ALL-TIME SERIES

In a series dating back to 2003, Mount St. Mary's holds a 6-3-2 series lead over Delaware State. After the Mount took the first five meetings, DSU responded by taking the next three. Following a pair of draws, Mount won the most recent matchup 6-1.

LOOKING AHEAD

The Mountaineers will return home the following Sunday (Aug. 25) to face NJIT. The noon kickoff starts a doubleheader at Waldron Family Stadium, with a men's game at 4 p.m.
