EMMITSBURG, Md. (June 13, 2024) – Mount St. Mary's freshman pitcher
Deven Sheerin received two postseason honors, given by a pair of organizations this week. He was named a Second Team Freshman All-American from Perfect Game and a NCAA Division I East All-Region Second Team from ABCA/Rawlings.
Sheerin excelled in his first collegiate season. Pitching in 18 contests for the Mountaineers, the Reading, Pennsylvania native set the team record for strikeouts in a season by fanning 109 opponents. He also set records for opponents' batting average (.197) and strikeouts per nine (14.01). He was credited with six victories for the team, including in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Championship May 22 against Canisius.
At the conclusion of the season, Sheerin was awarded the MAAC Rookie of the Year honor along with First Team All-MAAC accolades.
Sheerin joins a list of Mountaineers who earned Freshman All-American honors that includes such alumni as Dustin Pease, Josh Vittek, and Mike Matta.
Mount St. Mary's finished the 2024 season with a 22-34-1 and a 13-11 MAAC record. They won two games in the conference tournament, marking a first for the program since 2008.
