EMMITSBURG, Md. (May 21st, 2024) – Three Mountaineers were selected for the All–Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference awards after their stellar play this season.
Deven Sheerin has earned the Rookie of The Year while being named to the All-MAAC First Team and All-MAAC Rookie Team.
Scott Seeker is named to the All-MAAC First Team as a Designated Hitter, while
Brendan Yagesh earned an All-MAAC Second Team nod.
Freshman arm
Deven Sheerin was awarded the Rookie of The Year after his showstopping play this season on the mound. Sheerin's season stats sit at a 4.82 ERA with a 1.09 WHIP (Walks and Hits Per Inning), is 5-4 on the season through 61 2/3 innings, while fanning 99 batters. The Reading, Pa. native's best appearance was on March 16
th versus St. Bonaventure in which he threw a complete seven-inning game over the Bonnies. He nearly threw a shutout in this one after pitching seven innings, allowing one hit, one run, and one walk, while producing eight punch-outs. He threw a 12-strikeout game against Marist on April 6
th in his seven-inning stint in which he allowed just one run on three hits. Sheerin ended the regular season throwing two perfect innings to close out the win that clinched the playoffs for the Mountaineers at Saint Peter's, striking out five of the six batters he faced.
Scott Seeker earns an All-MAAC First Team nod for the second season in a row after hitting his stride mid-season. Seeker opened the season 3-32 with one home run and one RBI, since has produced a .398 batting average with 56 RBIs, eight home runs, and a .610 slugging percentage. The Norton, Ohio product senior year stats sit at a .349 average with 53 runs scored, 68 hits, 20 doubles, two triples, nine home runs, 57 RBIs, and an OPS of 1.084. Seeker ended the regular season batting 9-15 with 7 RBIs, five doubles, and a triple in the 2-1 series win over the Peacocks.
Sophomore left-handed pitcher
Brendan Yagesh has been nothing short of consistent this season, earning himself an All-MAAC Second Team bid. Yagesh yields a season ERA of 3.25 with a 1.35 WHIP through 63 2/3 innings while fanning 66 batters. The Monrovia, Md. native's best appearance was on April 26
th against conference foe Iona, where he threw seven scoreless innings, allowed just four hits, zero walks, with eight punch outs.
