Mount St. Mary’s Set to Challenge Canisius in First Postseason Bid Since 2018

The 2024 MAAC Baseball Championship is a six-team double elimination championship, that will take place at Clover Stadium in Pomona, NY on May 22-25 for the third straight season.
 
POMONA, N.Y. (May 21st, 2024) – The Mountaineers gained momentum in the second half of the season to clinch their first playoff berth since 2018. Coach Leoni and his team went 13-4 in their last 17 games while winning their last four conference series over Iona, Rider, Canisius, and Saint Peter's. The Mount is set to compete against the Golden Griffins in the first round of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference tournament on Wednesday, May 22nd, at 3 p.m.

*RECORD WATCH* JT Landwehr tied the NCAA Division-I Baseball record over the weekend for times being hit by a pitch in a single season with 37 held by Scott Davis of Delaware State in 2012 and Brian Harris of Vanderbilt in 2010.
 
MOUNT UPDATE
 
Scott Seeker has shown prowess and determination in the second half of the season. Seeker started the season batting 3-32 with one home run and one RBI, since then Seeker is batting 65-163 (.398 batting average) with eight home runs and 56 RBIs while also hanging tough at first base only showing two errors while assisting in 20 double-plays. The senior also posted a 9-15 weekend at Saint Peter's with 7 RBIs, five doubles, and a triple.
 
Tyler Long is batting .310 on the year with 62 hits, five home runs, 36 RBIs, 54 runs scored, and six doubles. As a team the Mountaineers are batting .289 in conference play while Seeker is batting .388 and Aiden Tierney is batting .375.
 
Brendan Yagesh leads the team on the mound and is 2-1 in conference play yielding a 3.15 ERA and 36 strikeouts while Deven Sheerin is 4-1, yields a 4.28 ERA and a 1.05 WHIP (Walks and Hits Per Inning) a team low, with 55 strikeouts.
 
SCOUTING CANISIUS
 
The Golden Griffins are 11-13 in conference play after losing their series against Mount St. Mary's and being swept by Niagara in their last series of the season. Jackson Strong leads the team batting .357 on the year and .325 against conference opponents with 34 RBIs and 11 home runs.
 
Justin Guilliano leads the team on the mound with a 4.84 ERA through 61 1/3 innings, having 64 punch outs and is 3-5 on the year while showing 2-4 in conference-play.
 
HISTORY WITH CANISIUS
 
Mount St. Mary's is now 3-10 in program history challenging the Golden Griffins on the Diamond after having won the series 2-1 just two weeks ago. The Mount took games one and two by a run margin of 22-5 and lost a narrow contest in game three 7-5.
