EMMITSBURG, Md. (May 2, 2024) – After pulling off a quarterfinal win over Iona, Mount St. Mary's women's lacrosse bets their strong momentum against the top-seeded and ranked Fairfield Stags in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC).
MOUNT UPDATE
Averaging a little less than 13 goals per game during their 6-2 down the stretch finish, the Mount posted 17 – their second highest total all year – to defeat the Gaels, 17-13. Three members of the team recorded hat tricks, led by
Anna Salerno with five.
Madison Harmening finished with four goals, along with six draw controls.
Mackenzi Furlong had the most points with six, including three goals. MAAC All-Rookie
Shannon McTavish earned four draw controls and scored her third goal of the season.
Furlong and Salerno – the Mount's All-MAAC selection – have the highest number of points among their teammates. Furlong has 63 points with 44 goals, and Salerno 41 with 36 goals. The collective defensive effort – led by Harmening,
Lizzie Stevenson,
Addison Malone, and
Mackey Fick – added another four caused turnovers to their stat sheet.
Ashlyn Watkins finished with nine saves, increasing her total to 128 stoppages for the year.
SCOUTING THE STAGS
Following a defeat at Holy Cross on February 10, Fairfield has won 15 contests in a row, including 9-0 in the MAAC and 9-0 at home. MAAC Offensive Player of the Year Elizabeth Talluto leads the charge with 74 points, 50 of them on goals. Unanimous All-MAAC selection has 29 caused turnovers with 51 ground balls, and Kelly Haggerty earned 17 goals to lead the MAAC All-Rookie Team. Claire Morris had 103 saves with an 8.23 goals-against average.
THE ALL-TIME SERIES
Including their win on April 6, Fairfield now leads the series six games to three. The Stags have also won the past four games dating back to 2007. Mount St. Mary's won MAAC games in 1997 and 1998, with a non-conference win in 2006.

The advancing team plays in the MAAC Championship on Sunday, May 5 at noon. Regardless of the victor, Fairfield hosts the game.
