Box Score Lawrenceville, N.J. (April 23, 2024)--Mount St. Mary's dropped both ends of its Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference doubleheader at Rider on Tuesday afternoon. The Mountaineers fell 8-0 in the opening game while Rider rallied for a 6-4 win in the nightcap.
The Mount (10-27, 3-13 MAAC) took the early lead in game two with a run in the top of the first.
Abigayle Perry led off the frame with a two-base hit and moved to third on a
Julia Vincent sacrifice.
Tori Bowles was hit by a pitch, reached on an error, allowing Perry to score. The Broncs were able to escape the inning without further damage.
Rider answered with a pair of unearned runs in the bottom of the first to take a 2-1 advantage. The Mount responded with three runs in the top of the second to regain the lead.
Zoe Truxon led the inning off with a single, and then moved to second on a wild pitch. Perry singled to move Truxon to third while she moved to second on the throw. An errant pickoff attempt allowed Perry to run home to even the score. Vincent walked and stole second to put runners on second and third for
Tori Bowles, who singled to left to give the Mount the lead. Bowles stole second, and
Brianna Manni followed with a base hit to give the Mountaineers a 4-2 lead.
Rider scored single runs in the fourth and fifth to tie the score, and took a 6-4 lead with a pair of runs in the sixth. The Mount was set down in order in the seventh as the Broncs secured the sweep.
Perry went 2-for-3 at the plate with a pair of runs scored in the game for the Mountaineers.
In the opening game, Rider (19-24, 11-6 MAAC) scored four times in the bottom of the first inning and never looked back in the 8-0 victory. Vincent had the Mount's lone hit in the contest while starting pitcher
Sophia Schmehl allowed six runs in five innings of work.
Earlier today, Bowles was named the MAAC Player of the Week after going 6-for-10 (.600) with four home runs and seven RBI in the Mount's three-game series with Saint Peter's. Bowles tied a school record with three home runs in a 4-for-4 day with six RBI in the final game of the series.
