EMMITSBURG, Md. (April 2, 2024) – Achieving a season high for goals on their way to the first Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) win of 2024 last Saturday, Mount St. Mary's women's lacrosse takes on Canisius hoping to double up for a 2-2 league record.
MOUNT UPDATE
Mackenzi Furlong contributed a career-high seven goals in the victory over Quinnipiac as the Mount scored 16 times and held on for a 16-15 win.
Anna Salerno found the back of the net four times. The duo is responsible for 50 of the team's 107 goals for the year.
As the calendar turns to April and the season reaches its final regular season games, the Mount along with the rest of the MAAC begin to make the push towards postseason play. The top six teams in the conference clinch a berth in the tournament. At present the Mountaineers are tied for seventh place with Canisius.
SCOUTING THE GRIFFS
Following a strong non-conference showing, Canisius received two tough challenges against Siena and Fairfield that gave them a 1-2 MAAC start. Like the Mount, the Golden Griffins have a duo at the top of the scorers' list, with Paige Stachura scoring 25 goals and Caroline Netti scoring 23. Starchura is an all-around contributor who also leads in caused turnovers with 20 and is second for ground balls and draw controls. Jody Chu has 81 of the team's 92 saves.
ALL-TIME SERIES
The teams first met last season as the Mount made the jump to the MAAC. Canisius won the contest by an 11-10 decision.
Julianna Sanchez and
Erin Anderson registered hat tricks in the game.
UPCOMING SCHEDULE
