EMMITSBURG, Md. (April 14, 2024) – Mount St. Mary's women's water polo completed their 2024 regular season with two narrow losses to Marist and Iona. The team finishes their scheduled campaign 14-14 with a 4-7 mark in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) and had clinched a berth to the postseason last weekend.
Anna Kegel earned her 10
th hat trick of the season in the Iona game and
Beatrice Vieira earned her first of the year against Marist. Alongside Vieira,
Ana Luisa Cotta,
Anita Radaelli, and
Rebecca Valentine scored goals in both contests.
Looking to bolster their seeding for the MAAC playoffs, the team got off to a strong start versus the Red Foxes. Playing even with the home side, they trailed by one at the halfway point before Marist tallied four in the fourth to gain the upper hand for good. Against Iona, the Mountaineers had to fight their way back after the Gaels dropped five in the opening frame. They managed to shut out Iona in the second quarter, but the competition rallied in the second half to maintain their advantage.
Postseason games begin April 26 when the team returns to the McCann Natatorium.
