Box Score EMMITSBURG, Md. (March 30, 2024) – Freshman
Brody Atkinson tallied his third consecutive hat trick as Mount St. Mary's men's lacrosse battled #20 ranked Quinnipiac Saturday. The Mountaineers hung tough with the Bobcats until the fourth, when the home side scored six times to take a 15-10 win.
Atkinson now has 22 goals for the season after posting scores in each of the first three quarters.
Cormac Giblin and
Tommy Niehaus added two goals each.
Mitchell Dunham had the most ground balls with five, and
Dan Bradley contributed two caused turnovers.
Owen Peters finished the game with 12 saves.
Quinnipiac received four goals from Ryan Donnery and a hat trick from Jake Tellers. Mason Oak completed 13 saves for the Bobcats.
After the Bobcats opened the scoring, the Mount ended the first quarter strong with a 4-0 run. Atkinson got the scoring started, followed by Wil McKay, Niehaus, and Giblin. Quinnipiac got one goal back, but the Mount grew the lead to 6-2 as
Ben Schuster got in on the scoring. The Bobcats finished the half strong with five of the next six to deadlock proceedings, 7-7, by halftime.
Both teams found the back of the net twice, with Giblin and Atkinson scoring for the Mountaineers. The homestanding Bobcats turned on the jets in the final frame, securing the game on a 6-0 run.
Kevin Whitty finished the contest with a goal to complete the Mount's scoring.
Heading back to Emmitsburg, the Mount faces Marist next Saturday (Apr. 6).
