EMMITSBURG, Md. (March 26, 2024) – Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) action returns to Waldron Family Stadium for Mount St. Mary's women's lacrosse as the team hosts Niagara.
MOUNT UPDATE
Last Saturday in New Rochelle, the Mount fell 12-7 to the Iona Gaels.
Christina Haspert posted her first hat trick of the season in a first half rally.
Ashlyn Watkins set a new career high for saves, stopping 15 Iona shots.
Mackenzi Furlong remains the team's leader on offense with the most goals (18), assists (8), and points (26).
Anna Salerno is one behind Furlong for goals.
Madison Harmening continues to hold an all-around presence on the field, leading in caused turnovers at 11 while also standing second for ground balls (19) and third for goals (12) and points (14).
SCOUTING THE PURPLE EAGLES
Niagara went up against ranked Fairfield in their MAAC opener, 14-7. Before that, the Purple Eagles enjoyed a 7-1 non-conference season which included a six-game win streak. Boasting the top offense for goals scored, Andra Savage is the team's leader for goals and points at a respective 35 and 42. Lexi Braniecki has 30 goals, and Lois Garlow and Rachel Crane have more than 20 goals. Sydney Huhtala is a defensive threat with 25 caused turnovers and ground balls.
ALL-TIME SERIES
Recent games trend towards Niagara, but the Mount holds an all-time advantage of 4-3 in the series. Last year the teams played twice, with the Mountaineers winning an overtime showing in the regular season and Niagara taking the postseason matchup.
