MOUNT UPDATE:  Mount St. Mary's is coming off a pair of losses to Morgan State in a midweek doubleheader on Wednesday.  Tori Bowles is hitting .298 while leading the team in hits (17), doubles (4), home runs (2) and RBI (11).  Gina Del Giorno leads the team with a .391 average while Abigayle Perry is the team leader in runs (11) and stolen bases (11).  In the circle, Sophia Schmehl is 2-1 with a 3.74 ERA in nine appearances (four starts).  Olivia Murphy (2-5, 5.70 ERA, 43.0 IP) and Maddie Coleman (2-3, 6.36 ERA, 36.1 IP) have been key contributors in the circle as well.

ABOUT CANISIUS:  Canisius is 5-10 this season after posting a 1-3 record at the Penn State Invitational on March 15-17.  Gianna Fazzolari leads the team with a .356 average with four doubles, two homers and 13 RBI.  Megan Giese (4-5, 2.93 ERA, 60K, 55.0 IP) and Kate Wiggins (1-4, 2.33 ERA, 30.0 IP) are the top two pitchers for the Golden Griffins.

THE ALL-TIME SERIES:  Canisius holds a 7-3 lead in the all-time series with the Mountaineers that began in 1986. The Golden Griffins swept last year's MAAC doubleheader in Buffalo with 8-0 and 3-1 victories that clinched the MAAC regular season title.  The Mount is 1-3 all-time on the road against Canisius.

THIS AND THAT:  Senior Julia Vincent had her four-game hit streak snapped against Morgan State…Vincent is hitting .357 (5-for-14) with three steals over her past five games…Gina Del Giorno is 4-for-4 at the plate over her past two games to raise her season average to .391…Maddie Coleman is 1-0 with a 1.40 ERA over her past 15 innings pitched…Olivia Murphy is 2-2 with a 2.71 ERA over her past four appearances…Kassidy Johnson is 8-for-23 (.348) over her past seven games.

BOWLES MOVING UP:  Senior Tori Bowles is hitting .298 this season while leading the team in hits (17), doubles (4), home runs (2) and RBI (11).  Bowles now has 15 career home runs for the Mountaineers, good for eight on the school's all-time list.  She needs five more RBI to move into the top 10 all-time at the Mount in that category.

GETTING ON BASE:  Leadoff hitter Abigayle Perry leads the Mountaineers with a .403 on-base percentage this season.   She leads the team with 11 runs scored and 11 stolen bases while she has walked 11 times and been hit by a pitch on eight occasions.  Perry recorded her 100th career run in the Mount's 4-3 nine-inning win over UMass Lowell on Sunday.  She is ranked in the Mount's career top 10 lists in runs scored (5th, 100), stolen bases (4th, 46), triples (2nd, 10) and walks (1st, 90).

HOME COOKING:  The Mountaineers posted a three-game sweep over UMass Lowell to move to 4-2 at home this season.  The three wins give the Mount an impressive 40-9 (.816) record at Our Lady of the Meadows Field since the start of the 2022 season.  The success at homes stretches even further with the Mount holding a 65-24 (.730) record at home over the past six seasons (since 2019).

EXTRA INNINGS:  Four of the Mount's past six games have gone to extra innings with the Mount posting a 3-1 record in those contests.  The Mountaineers are coming off back-to-back walk-off extra inning wins over UMass Lowell.  On Saturday, Olivia Murphy's RBI single off the pitcher's glove lifted the Mount to a 4-3 win in 10 innings.  On Sunday, Abigayle Perry's infield single to short brought home the winning run in a 4-3 win over the River Hawks in nine innings.  The Mount earned a 4-3 win over Coppin State in eight innings on March 12 on an Elizabeth King walk-off base hit.  The Mount fell to Howard, 6-3, in eight innings in the home opener on March 8.

UP NEXT:  The Mount hosts Siena for a three-game MAAC series on March 29 and 30 at Our Lady of the Meadows Field on campus.   The teams will play a noon doubleheader on Friday, March 29, and a single game at noon on Saturday, March 30.
