Freymann’s Win Highlights Mount Track & Field’s Seventh Place Showings

EMMITSBURG, Md. (March 16, 2024)Elizabeth Freymann won the women's 800 meter collegiate event and the Mount St. Mary's track & field teams each took seventh place at the Alan Connie Shamrock Invitational, hosted by Coastal Carolina.
 
The sophomore paced the field in the 800, collecting a time of 2:14.87, which set a personal record. Freymann's effort was one of several top five finishes among the collegiate events. Keighan DeCoff took runner-up in the discus at 43.16 meters and Rebecca Weir matched with a runner-up in the javelin at 41.08 meters. Todd Charles qualified for the semifinals in the 100 meters with a second place finish at 10.54 seconds before coming in sixth in the finals. Jasmine Kidd did well for the 100 prelims, earning a third place effort.
 
Diego Miguelena and John Ruona paired up for top five finishes in the 3000 steeplechase. Miguelena completed the race in 9:32.52 with Ruona taking a 9:35.96. Another athlete who linked up for a 1-2 punch with another is Ann Marie Oriakhi, who teamed up with DeCoff to go top five in the discus at 41.79 meters. Renaldi Falwell went fourth in the men's shot put with a 14.62 meter effort. Fifth place finishes include Jacey Hentz in the 100 hurdles preliminaries (15.92 seconds), Bah Abdoulaye in the 400m (48.39 seconds), Tierney McCaroll in the javelin (37.99 meters), and Arran Fahey in the pole vault (4.71 meters).
 
Relays also received top five finishes from the men's 4x200 relay team of Trevin McHargh, Miles Moore, Lucas Koon-Perez, and Maximus Zitnay racing a time of 1:27.65 to come in third place. The women's 4x100 team of Nesrine Charouel, Avery Ferron, Kidd, and Zaria Wilson captured fifth in their race with a 47.95 second effort.
 
More Mountaineers earned high marks in the open events. Charouel coupled her relay effort with a fourth place time of 1:03.20 in the 400 open. Ellie Dorian went for second in the 800 at 2:28.97, Levi Zilneus and Ben Saad both earned 1.78 meters for the high jump to finish 4-5, and Evyn Fitzgerald finished fourth in the pole vault, a 3.05 meters showing.
 
The team splits squads April 5-6 for their next set of meets, competing at the High Point VertKlasse Meeting and the George Mason Spring Invitational.
