EMMITSBURG, Md. (March 15, 2024) – With 10 different goal scorers, Mount St. Mary's women's water polo used a collective effort to defeat VMI, 20-11, and pick up their first Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) win. The team is now 11-7 for the entire year.
Four Mountaineers registered hat tricks in the game, led by
Anita Radaelli with four goals.
Ana Luisa Cotta,
Rebecca Valentine, and
Anna Kegel tallied three goals each.
Robyn Currie and
Mara Davis supplied three assists apiece, and Cotta paced the steals department with three.
Hannah Keyser had six saves and
Beatrice Vieira reentered as the goalie as well.
Disciplined play and strong defense helped the Mountaineers go ahead and stay here. On straight 6v6 play, the Mount outmatched VMI 5-0. The Keydets were able to capitalize on exclusions to score, and the two teams were even in center output. Mount won the counter battle four goals to one.
The second half proved better than the first as the Mount took an 8-5 advantage and built on it, scoring six goals in each of the last two quarters.
Saturday's run at the VMI Weekend features Wagner and LIU. Games begin at 9:30 a.m. in Lexington, Virginia.
