MOUNT MEN'S UPDATE: The Mountaineer men's tennis team is 4-6 on the season after sweeping past SUNY Oneonta in their last match. In doubles play, the Mount's No. 1 tandem of
Filippos Zachiotis and
Jarrett Karnibad crusied to a 6-1 win over August LePique and William Schmid.Â
Victor Mignot and
Elliot Stevens had a 6-0 win over Chris Chippari and Brayden Stuart at No. 2 while
Marcel Cronin and Akarsh Gaongkar downed Braden Greenberg and Zachary Bleakman, 6-1, at No. 3. The Mount swept all six singles matches. Karnibad downed LePique, 6-1, 6-1, at No. 1 singles with
Aaron Thompson defeating Schmid, 6-4, 7-6 (7-4) at No. 2.Â
Ryan Wagner captured No. 3 singles with a 6-1, 6-0 win over Chippari with
Luke Papayoanou winning, 6-1, 6-1, at No. 4 over Stuard.Â
Pablo Martinez Zuccardi was a 6-0, 6-0 victor at No. 5 singles over Bleakman with Jake Allen winning, 6-1, 6-0, at No. 6 singles over Greenberg.
MOUNT WOMEN'S UPDATE:Â The Mount women's tennis team fell to 2-3 on the season with a 6-1 loss to Rhode Island on Wednesday.Â
Sofia Kostirko improved to 5-0 this season in dual matches at the No. 1 singles spot to pace the Mountaineers in the match. The Rams (9-2) swept the doubles matches to earn the doubles point and the early lead. The Mount's duo of
Adriana Barney and
Ana Alvarez-Storni lost at No. 1 doubles by the score of 6-4. The Rams won the other two matches by 6-0 scores. In singles play, Kostirko improved to 5-0 at No. 1 singles with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Sophie Herrman for the Mount's point in the match. Alvarez-Storni fell, 6-2, 6-2 to Nadia Rajan at No. 2 singles and
Margherita Trolese lost at No. 3 to Valentina Cvackova, 6-2, 6-3 at No. 3.Â
Valentine Mudry lost at No. 6 singles to Ava Grnja, 6-1, 7-6 (8-6).
ABOUT THE PURPLE EAGLES: Niagara's men's team is 5-2 on the year after posting 4-3 wins over Colgate (Mar. 8) and Binghamton (Mar. 10) in their last two matches. The women's team is 4-8 on the year after downing Colgate (4-3) and Binghamton (7-0).
ABOUT THE BONNIES: St. Bonaventure owns a 4-9 record this season, but is coming off 4-3 wins over Binghamton and LeMoyne. The women's team is 6-10 with wins over Binghamton and Mercyhurst in their last two matches.
ALL-TIME SERIES vs. NIAGARA:Â The Mount men's team is 0-5 all-time against the Purple Eagles, falling at home last year, 6-1, in the first-ever MAAC match between the two programs. The women's team is 2-2 all-time against Niagara, posting a 6-1 win at home last year in the first MAAC matchup between the programs.
ALL-TIME SERIES vs. ST. BONAVENTURE: The men's team is 0-1 all-time against the Bonnies, falling 4-3 at home last year in the first-ever meeting. The Mount is 1-1 against St .Bonaventure after a 4-3 home last season.
