EMMITSBURG, Md. (March 1, 2024) – On day one of the Claremont Convergence Tournament, Mount St. Mary's women's water polo battled ranked Arizona State and Pacific. A strong defensive second half sparked a comeback attempt on the #15 Tigers before falling 13-9. In the opening game, the Mount battled the #6 Sun Devils in a 24-5 final.
Ana Luisa Cotta led the team in goals with four, scoring twice in each game.
Breanna Wood posted her first career goal during the Arizona State game.
Anita Radaelli and
Anna Kegel scored in both games, with Radaelli adding six drawn exclusions, three steals, and an assist. Kegel and
Robyn Currie had multi-steal games with Currie also contributing a multi-assist effort.
The competition hit double digits on the scoreboard by halftime in each game. ASU was able to ride the momentum to a victory, but Pacific ran into a Mount defense that stood firm in the second half. Shutting out the Tigers in the third quarter, Mount St. Mary's was able to pull the contest within three at 11-8. Pacific managed to find the back of the net twice in the final eight minutes to hold off any further charge.
Saturday's contests at the Convergence are against #12 Long Beach State and Chapman.
