EMMITSBURG, Md. (February 23, 2024) – Mount St. Mary's women's basketball looks to keep the momentum in their favor as they travel to New Rochelle Saturday for a game with the Iona Gaels.

MOUNT UPDATE

The team set season highs for points and rebounds in their 72-57 win at Marist last Thursday. Jessica Tomasetti led the field with 16 points and was one of four Mountaineers in double figures. The 48 rebounds eclipsed the previous season high of 43, set back in November during the overtime win at Navy.

Tomasetti's point total now puts her at 933 for her career, and still within reach of 1,000 at the Mount. Jo Raflo hit a pair of triples to increase her total to 56, nearing the junior class record of 60 set by Bridget Birkhead and the top 10 list for three-pointers in a season. Isabella Hunt has 196 rebounds for the year after grabbing eight against the Red Foxes, placing her ninth among seniors in Mount history.

Thursday's victory gives the Mountaineers sole possession of sixth place in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) standings. They stand one game back of Canisius for fifth and the coveted first round bye for the conference tournament.

SCOUTING IONA

A pair of road victories over Marist and Saint Peter's bumped the Gaels' record to 4-11 in MAAC play as the team is also looking to string together a solid finish to league play. At present Iona is ninth in the conference standings. Sierra DeAngelo leads the team in points and rebounds per game, and Natalia Otkhmezuri continues to average double figures. Petra Oborilova is the team's three-pointer leader, and Judith Gomez is also a threat from long range while leading the Gaels in steals.

THE ALL-TIME SERIES

All games between Mount St. Mary's and Iona have taken place in the MAAC. The Gaels swept every contest in 2022-23, including a conference tournament game on their way to the league title. On February 1, Raflo paced the Mount with 18 points as the team received their first victory in the series, 55-48.

LOOKING AHEAD

This Thursday (Feb. 29), the Mount host Manhattan in the penultimate home game for the season.
