EMMITSBURG, Md. (February 18, 2024) – Mount St. Mary's women's water polo improves to 9-4 for the 2024 season after a split weekend at the Princeton Invitational. The team defeated Bucknell on Saturday 13-10 before falling to the #8 ranked Tigers 17-6.
Rebecca Valentine shined on the offensive side, recording a total of eight goals. She was one of three Mountaineers to post hat tricks in the Bison win, joined by
Anita Radaelli and
Anna Kegel. Valentine added two more in the Princeton game and was one of five players who scored against the Tigers.
Achieving victory over Bucknell was done via a quick start. The Mount raced out to score six times in the opening period and carried an 8-5 lead into the break. That advantage was enough to fend off four goals in the final frame to preserve the win.
On Sunday, the Mount hung tough with the Tigers through the first quarter and stayed within a goal. Princeton took command in the second period with a six-spot, going up 10-4 and keeping the visitors at bay.
Mount St. Mary's heads to California in two weeks for the Claremont Convergence.
