EMMITSBURG, Md. (November 21, 2024) – After a long and arduous season of MAWPC regular season play, Mount St. Mary's men's water polo takes on Navy in the first round of the conference championship on Friday, November 22 at 7:30 p.m.
MOUNT UPDATE
The Mountaineers finished with a regular season record of 5-27 with a MAWPC record of 3-11. Caped off by a corps of five players scoring 20 or more goals, the Mount put 383 goals past their opponents for a shot to goal percentage of 40%.
Alexandros Bellesis contributed the most with 86 goals followed by
Aaron Tarr with 62 and
Chrysostomos Valavanis with 51. Tarr led the way in three other categories with 63 assists, 21 field blocks, and 40 steals.
Vasilije Marinkovic stayed strong in the cage this season with a save percentage of 48% with 210 shots saved.
THE FIELD
The No. 1 Fordham Rams recorded a perfect 28-0 season with a conference record of 14-0. They will face No. 8 Mercyhurst in the first round, with the lakers recording a 0-14 record in the conference. In game two, the 8-6 Wagner Seahawks face off against the 7-7 Bucknell Bisons in a battle between the four and five seeds. Game three plays host to the No. 2 George Washington Revolutionaries and the No. 7 Johns Hopkins Blue Jays, with the two teams going 11-3 and 3-11 respectively. The Mount received the tiebreaker over Johns Hopkins due to courtesy goal differential over the Blue Jays.

ATTENDING THE TOURNAMENT
For fans attending the MAWPC Championship, ticket prices are $25 for a three-day tournament pass or $10 for a one-day pass. Navy students, faculty and staff with a valid college ID, and senior citizens 65 and older, will be admitted at discounted prices of $10 (tournament pass) and $5 (one-day pass). All children 12 and under are free of charge. All tickets are exclusively available at the door as there will be no presale in advance of the championship.
The United States Naval Academy (USNA) is closed to all vehicles without a Department of Defense-approved identification card. All other visitors are encouraged to park downtown and walk through the security gates at Gate 1. When walking on, those ages 18 and over must present a photo identification card (driver's license) to gain access and those ages 17 and under must be accompanied by an adult.
UP NEXT
Opponents depend on how the Mountaineers fare in the tournament. A victory for all three games nets an automatic berth to the NCAA Tournament.
