EMMITSBURG, Md. (October 25, 2024) – Returning from New England, Mount St. Mary's men's water polo now turns to Baltimore to face conference opponents Johns Hopkins and Annapolis to face Navy on Saturday, October 26. They return to Annapolis on Sunday, October 27 to face George Washington at Lejeune Hall in a neutral site MAWPC showdown.
MOUNT UPDATE
Vasilije Marinkovic was named the MAWPC Defensive Player of the Week for his efforts in goal against Chapman, recording 22 saves, just three off of his career best 25 saves at the Mount.
Alexandros Bellesis was named to the honor roll of Offensive Player of the Week after scoring 16 goals in last weekend's action at the Brown/Harvard Invitational.
Bellesis notched his 200
th goal for the program against Brown on October 19
th against. He is the only person in program history to accomplish that feat. He along with
Michael Lemishko and
Drasko Sekaric all notched hat tricks in the penultimate game of last weekend against Salem.
Nicholas Wallace-Whitfield contributed to the effort with four assists in the Mount's defeat to the Tigers. Both Sekaric and Bellesis added hat tricks again against Chapman with Wallace-Whitfield,
Chrysostomos Valavanis and
Aaron Tarr all adding braces against the Panthers.
SCOUTING THE OPPONENTS
Johns Hopkins holds a conference record of 2-5 with a overall record of 10-15. Their sole MAWPC wins have come against Mercyhurst as the Blue Jays have pulled the double over the Lakers in this year's edition of conference play. The teams last meeting on October 13 ended in a 16-10 win for the Mount.
Navy has an overall record of 14-7 and a conference record of 4-2 with two wins against Mercyhurst and solo victories against Bucknell and the Mount. The last meeting between the Midshipmen and the Mountaineers ended in a 21-7 win for Navy in Annapolis on September 7.
George Washington is 10-6 overall with a conference record of 6-1. With wins over No. 20 Bucknell, Fresno Pacific, and Wagner, the Revolutionaries notched a 15-14 win over the Mount in Emmitsburg on October 13.
