EMMITSBURG, Md. (January 26th, 2024) - Swim and Dive has had their triumphs and misfortunes this season with dominant wins over VMI and Messiah while suffering heartbreaking losses, most recently, to Lafayette. The Mountaineers look to leave their mark on the regular season as they conclude 2023-24 with a road bout in the Catholic Clash against a stout Loyola team, only showing one loss on the season.

MOUNT UPDATE

Swimming and diving competed the weekend before last in what was a battle to the finish, resulting in a Mountaineer loss on both ends of the pool. The women fell to the Leopards 117-96, while the men lost 210-91.

The women stand with an overall record of 2-4 while on a two-game losing skid to Rider and Lafayette. In the last meet,
Maddy Samuels highlighted the day with a masterclass day after finishing first in her only solo event (50-free), while also assisting her team in two first place finishes in team relay events. After bursting out of the gate with a first-place finish in the first event of the day, the women struggled to keep the match close in the mid-rounds. Fighting until the finish,
Abigail Steckiel,
Meghan Speicher,
Madison Murphy, and
Maddy Samuels capped the day off with a first-place nod in the 400-freestyle relay.

The men stand with an overall record of 3-3, also on a two-game skid to Rider and Lafayette. Last meet,
Austin Toland was the team's top performer after tallying a first-place finish in the 100-free, while assisting his team in one first-place and two second place finishes in team relay events. After opening with a second-place tally, the men cooled off, until
Jason Fitch revived the team with a first-place finish in the 100-backstroke, followed by an
Aidan Grady first-place nod in the 100-breaststroke event.
John Haskins, Toland,
Antonio Gurri, and
Nicholas Santorelli closed the day with a first-place nod in the 400-free relay.

SCOUTING LOYOLA
Â
The Greyhounds collectively show one loss on the season, being on the women's side versus William & Mary. They placed first in both tournaments they have competed in this season, while defeating teams like Lafayette by a margin of 130 between both teams. However, the Hounds could be in for a long day as they are slated to compete against Army West Point at noon on Saturday, just 24 hours before their meet against the Mount.
