EMMITSBURG, Md. (September 27, 2023) – Heading to the West Coast for the second straight year, Mount St. Mary's men's water polo readies for five challengers over the weekend. Along with four opponents at the Gary Troyer Invite, the Mount adds a non-conference bout with first-year program Cal State Fullerton.

MOUNT UPDATE: Competing in Morgantown, W.Va. last weekend, the Mountaineers went 2-2 at a tournament hosted by Salem. Sunday was the team's day with a sweep of Gannon and Penn State Behrend, bumping their record to 4-7.

Alexandros Bellesis and Aaron Tarr stand neck-and-neck in the goal count, with Bellesis holding a slight 24-23 edge. Sherif Hosni has the most saves with 56, followed by Joseph Maxson with 41. On the year the Mount is shooting 35 percent, with Ayden Hess the most efficient scorer at 6-for-10.

THE COMPETITION: Cal State Fullerton stands 9-7 in their inaugural year but come into the match on a two-game slide. Jacob Hatch leads the Titans in points with 36. Westcliff stands 5-8 after splitting last Sunday with CSU Maritime and UC Merced. Chapman is 1-5 after facing a daunting opening schedule featuring ranked opponents. Everett Prussak leads the Panthers with 25 points, 20 of them goals. Air Force are 9-8 on the year, with Tom Leggett logging the most points at 41. The Falcons defeated Biola in the most recent contest, going three overtimes before securing the win. Biola rounds out the Mount's Gary Troyer opponents, holding a 4-9 record and coming off defeats to ranked California Baptist and Long Beach State.

PREVIOUS HISTORY: Combined, the Mountaineers are 2-1 against the field with prior histories against Biola (2-0) and Chapman (0-1). The weekend marks the first games with Cal State Fullerton, Westcliff, and Air Force.
