May 16, 2023—Todd Charles, Dante Elliot, Richard Gilchrist and
Dylan LaNoue of the Mount St. Mary's men's outdoor track and field team have qualified for the NCAA Division I Outdoor Track and Field East First Round, hosted by the University of North Florida in Jacksonville, Fla., on May 24-27. Charles qualified in the 100m dash, Elliot in the high jump, Gilchrist in the 110m hurdles and LaNoue in the triple jump.Â

The top 48 athletes in their respective events earned a berth into the NCAA Preliminary Rounds. The top 12 times/marks at both the East and West Preliminary Round sites will qualify for the NCAA Championships in Austin, Texas, June 7-10.
A senior, Charles will be making his first appearance at the NCAA East First Round. Charles earned his spot in the field with a school-record performance at the VertKlasse Meeting at High Point on March 31. Charles won the 100m dash at the event in a school-record time of 10.25 seconds, breaking the old mark of 10.40 set by Justin Kimble on March 29, 2019. Charles is 41st in the rankings in the 100m dash. He is coming off a second-place finish in the 100m dash at the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Championships. The first round of the 100m dash will be held on Wednesday, May 24, at 7:00 p.m.
Elliot, a sophomore, will be making his first appearance at the NCAA East First Round. Elliot qualified with by clearing 2.07m (6' 9.5") at the Larry Ellis Invitational at Princeton on April 14, earning MAAC Field Athlete of the Week honors. He finished in a tie for third place in the high jump at the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference championships, and has three of the Mount's top five performances this year in the high jump. Elliot, ranked 47th in the field, will compete in the high jump at 2:30 p.m. on Friday, May 26.
Gilchrist is making his second consecutive appearance at the NCAA East First Round in the 110m hurdles. Gilchrist earned his spot in the field with a school-record performance at the VertKlasse Meeting as well. A graduate student, Gilchrist won the 110m hurdles at that event with a time of 13.76 seconds, breaking his own school record. Gilchrist is ranked 26th in the field and is coming off a second-place finish at the IC4A Championships this past weekend after winning the MAAC title in the 110m hurdles the previous week. The first round of the 110m hurdles will be held on Wednesday, May 24, at 6:00 p.m.
LaNoue will be making his third straight appearance at the NCAA East First Round in the triple jump. He earned his spot in the field with his performance at the USC Open on April 22, with a mark of 15.39m (50' 6"). LaNoue is coming off a first-place finish in the triple jump at the MAAC Championships where he was named the meet's Most Outstanding Performer in the Field Events. Last year, LaNoue finished in 37th place with a mark of 14.97m (49' 1.5") at the East First Round after posting a placing 20
th in 2021 with a leap of 15.62m (51' 3"). Â LaNoue is ranked 34th in the triple jump in the East and he will begin his quest for a spot in the NCAA Championships on Friday, May 26, at 6:00 p.m.
